Snow is one of the “coolest” sensory play supplies ever because it falls from the sky in what often feels like an endless (free) supply of play material! This winter we have received plenty of snow to play in! Last year was such a snow bust I have been waiting a whole year to try some of these colorful, artistic, and creative winter snow activities with the kids that can be done indoors our outside.

Let’s hurry and try them all before the snow melts! When you look outside if you don’t see snow don’t worry because if you have a snow cone machine you can make your own snow or you can freeze water and play with ice (check out the ice play ideas below).

Fun Winter Snow Activities for Kids (Play & Paint)

With my kids being sick lately (boo for winter colds). I decided to bring the snow indoors for them to play with. Our most recent creative snow activities included shapes, painting, life skills and fine motor skills. My daughter loves to eat snow so before we started I made sure to remind her not to eat the snow from the activity, then we began and the kids had so much fun they even smiled while they are sick-Yay!

Colorful Shapes Cookie Cutter Snow Painting

Supplies:

Cookie Cutters
Paintbrush
Paint (we used watercolors)
Snow
Tray if you are doing the activity inside

Directions:

1. Give child supplies and watch what they do. If they need guidance show them how to press the cookie cutters into the snow and how to use the paint brush to paint the snow.

Little Tiger carefully painted her snow shapes adding details inside each shape. Little Dragon painted a rainbow which both kids thought was beautiful. This winter snow activity kept them busy for an amazingly long time. I made several trips outside to gather more snow for their trays.

Slicing Snow Practical Life Practice

Supplies:

Plastic knife
Snow
Paint and paint brush (optional)
Tray to put snow on if you are doing this activity inside
(Please supervise as there is a knife with this activity).

Directions:

1. Give child tray with supplies and watch what they do. If they need guidance show them how to hold the knife and slice the snow which makes cool patterns as the ice separates.
