When Is The Best Time To Make A Dr. Seuss Craft?

Make this craft after enjoying storytime together, as part of your Dr. Seuss Day celebrations (which is March 2nd, on Dr. Seuss’s birthday) which also happens to be Read Across America Day

Or you could watch a Dr. Seuss movie or TV show. We love the Lorax, which my daughter used to pronounce “lo-lax” when she was three… so cute!

You could also make this cute little monster handprint craft for Halloween as a not-so-scary alternative to crafts in October.

Paint or Paper Handprints?

Make paper handprints if you don’t want to use paint (less mess) or if you want to make two handprints at one time (save time).

Make painted handprints if you want to make them directly on the paper (no cutting) or if you like the painted handprint look more (crafts look so cute with those little handprints)

For your convenience, printable directions are available for you at the end of this post.

Watch our Video Tutorial Here:

Step 1: Make the Handprints

Paper Handprints: To make 2 handprints at once fold the paper in two. Use the pencil to trace your child’s hand. Cut along the lines.

If it is too hard for your child to cut through two pieces of paper at once you can help with the cutting or trace both of their hands so they can cut them out one at a time.

Glue the hands to the template.

or

Painted Handprints: To make painted handprints use your paintbrush to cover one of your child’s hands with blue paint. Make sure to get their palms and fingers coated evenly. Gently press their hand onto the template.

Repeat with the second hand.

TIP: You may want to make the painted handprints on a piece of white paper if you are worried about smudging, extra fingers, or other mishaps that can happen when making handprints. This will let you make as many handprints as you need to use the perfect one for your final craft. To do this, make your handprints on white paper, then cut them out when they are dry, glue the hands to the template, and continue with the rest of the craft directions.

Step 2: Assemble the Craft

Cut out the face templates.

Glue the face templates to the handprints and the craft is done.

For added fun, children could draw on the background or write their favorite Dr. Seuss quote. I LOVE this one,

“To the world you may be one person; but to one person you may be the world”-Dr. Seuss
