If you already do a lot of baking, you might actually have most of the ingredients already hanging out in your kitchen. But if not, no worries! There’s not a single ingredient on the list that is hard to find OR expensive.

These chewy, chocolatey treats are also really easy to make with your kids, so feel free to grab your little helpers and turn it into a family affair!

They’re the perfect snacktivity to pull out of your arsenal on a rainy weekend, but (at the same time) impressive-looking enough that if you’ve been tapped to bring a dessert to a school or church event, these will also fit the bill. You’ll have people thinking you spent HOURS making them when, in reality, you can get them done while watching an episode of your favorite TV show.

Fun Recipe Variations and Allergy Modifications

While this recipe calls for ingredients like Shredded Wheat Cereal (for the nest) and mini Cadbury Eggs, feel free to play around with it if your family has different dietary needs. For example, if you have to accommodate sensitivity or to gluten or wheat, you can opt to use gluten-free rolled oats rather than shredded wheat cereal.

Even Rice Krispies or pretzels could be a great replacement for the nest ingredients. It can also be really fun to add Peeps to the nest of eggs. You can also replace the mini Cadbury eggs with other similarly shaped candies, like jelly beans. There’s also Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs, M&M’s Eggs, and Whoppers Mini Robin Eggs. Have a peanut allergy? Switch to another favorite nut-free spread, or something It’s totally up to you!

Storage Tips

These don’t last for long in my house, but they can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week OR for up to a month in the freezer. If you freeze them, place them in the fridge to defrost before serving them.

Prep:

Fill your cupcake pan with cupcake liners. Do this ahead of time because when you are building your nests, you want to have them made before the chocolate solidifies.

Step 1: Melt the Chocolate and Peanut Butter

In a microwave safe bowl, mix together the peanut butter and semi sweet chocolate then microwave at 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until the mixture is smooth.

Or use a pot on the stove, making sure to stir frequently so the chocolate doesn’t burn.

Step 3: Build a Nest

Place a heaping tablespoon full of the chocolate mixture into each cupcake liner.

Press the back of a spoon into the mixture to create a bird nest shape so the eggs can fit in the middle without falling out.

To harden the chocolate quickly, place the cupcake pan of nests into the freezer for 15 minutes.

Once the chocolate nests have hardened you can remove them from the cupcake liners.
