I have a big collection of lids because there are so many things that can be done with them just like this Learn and Stack Sight Word Activity. If your child isn’t ready for sight words you can use this same activity to learn letters or numbers too. This activity is simple to put together (just the way we like things around here) and I even provided the stacking mat as a free download so all you have to do is prep the lids, print the template, and grab your kid!

My husband thinks I’m nuts with all the bags of lids I have but there is are so many fun activities that can be done with them like our DIY Milk Cap Alphabet SetMilk Cap Squish Painting and our Don’t Drop the Cap Game that I think my collection is justified–I just need to find a better place for them so they aren’t always all over my kitchen counter :).

Directions:

To prep the activity make stacks of lids with at least a large and a small lid. I was able to find enough lids that our stacks have 3 tiers.

Pick a stack and write the word on all the lids in that stack. Repeat until all the lids have been written on.

Write the words on the Learn and Stack printable.

To do the activity have child select a lid, read the word, and place it on the mat. Since the lids are different sizes they will need to stack them so the largest lid is on the top and the smallest lid is on the bottom.

Little Tiger enjoyed the challenging of building and balancing each stack that she kept grabbing and reading lid after lid. It was perfect–she forgot her fear of “learning to read” even though she was doing just that–yay!
