Why Do We Track The Weather?
There are a few reasons why we track the weather and why it’s fun to teach our children to do so too. One reason is so that we can dress appropriately for the day. If it’s going to be sunny outside, we know to wear sunscreen and a hat. If it’s going to be cold, we know to wear a coat. Another reason is so that we can plan our activities. If it’s going to be raining, we know that we can’t go to the park. But, we could plan to stay inside and read books or do a puzzle. Tracking weather patterns can also help us make weather predictions like if a thunderstorms or hurricane are coming.
Benefits Of Weather Charts For Kids
When we use a weather chart we can talk about what the different types of weather are and how they feel. We can also track the temperature each day to see if it’s getting warmer or colder outside. Weather charts are a great way to get kids interested in the weather and observe changes that happen each day.
Some benefits of using a weather chart with kids are:
- They help kids learn about the different types of weather and how to identify them.
- Kids can learn about temperature and what it means when it’s hot, warm, or cold outside.
- Exposure to the concepts of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
- Practice making scientific observations and predictions.
- Learning vocabulary words and weather terminology.
- Understanding the correlation between months and seasons when used with a calendar.
Can This Weather Chart For Kids Be Used At Home And In The Class Room?
Yes! This weather chart can be used at home or in the classroom as one of your teaching resources. If you’re using it in the classroom, you could hang it up on a bulletin board or have kids glue it into their science journals. At home, you could use it to help kids dress for the day or plan their day’s activities.
How Do You Introduce Weather To Kids?
If you’re not sure how to introduce weather to kids, a great way to start is by talking about the different types of weather and what they look like. You can also talk about the temperature and what it means when it’s hot, warm, or cold outside. Once kids have a basic understanding of the weather, you can start using the chart to track the weather each day. This also helps with their memory and prediction skills as they remember yesterday’s weather, and guess what the weather will be like the next day.
