We live in a fast paced world where family life with kids seems to fly by week after week. It’s nice that Valentine’s Day gives us the opportunity to slow down, and focus on those we love. I have gathered some quick and easy Valentine’s Day activities to do together as a family that will make you laugh, spend time, and make memories together.

Why is Spending Time Together as a Family Important?

When families share moments together they strengthen relationships, learn and practice social skills, share memories, and work together as a family unit. These moments create times of laughter and enjoyment that teach children the value of togetherness and the importance of nurturing relationships.

Furthermore, taking the time to enjoy each other’s company helps to instill a sense of belonging and security.

Ultimately, Valentine’s Day is more than just a celebration of romantic love; it is a celebration of all forms of love—especially that which exists within families. By prioritizing time together, families can create a culture of connection that will last throughout the years.

This Valentine’s Day, enjoy spending time together with these FUN Valentine's Day activities and make the day a heartfelt celebration of love and family.

1. Family Baking Session

Gather the family in the kitchen and bake some delicious treats together. Cookies, cupcakes, or a heart-shaped cake can be festive options. Let everyone participate by assigning tasks, decorating, and of course, tasting the results!

2. Crafting Valentine Cards

Set up a crafting station with colored paper, stickers, and markers. Have a fun session where everyone can create personalized Valentine cards for each other or for friends and family. This activity encourages creativity and heartfelt expressions of love. Younger children can draw pictures and older children can write a special message.

3. Heart Treasure Hunt

Organize a treasure hunt around the house or yard. Hide heart-shaped notes or small treats and give clues to find them. This playful activity can be exciting for kids and will keep them engaged while celebrating the spirit of Valentine’s Day. I used these Heart Sticky Notes all over the house and my kids had so much fun!

4. Family Game Night

Set aside some time for a family game night. Choose board games, card games, or even video games that everyone can enjoy. Creating a friendly competition can lead to lots of laughter and bonding moments. This Tower of Love Game looks fun for all ages. We also made a homemade Valentine’s Tic Tac Toe game to take turns challenging each other.

5. Movie Night with a Twist

Instead of a traditional movie night, create a themed night with Valentine’s Day movies. Prepare snacks, cozy up with blankets, and even dress in red or pink to enhance the festive atmosphere.

6. Love Jar

Have each family member write down what they love about one another on small pieces of paper. Collect these in a jar and read them together. This activity helps children learn what qualities are admirable, gain confidence, and learn to appreciate others.

7. Valentine’s DIY Photo Booth

Create a DIY photo booth with props and backdrops related to Valentine’s Day. Take silly pictures together as a family, and maybe even create a photobook with the pictures to remember each year.

8. Park Time

If the weather permits, pack a picnic and head to a park. If the weather is too cold, try eating out at a place with an indoor park.

9. Write Love Letters to Each Other

Encourage each family member to write a short love letter or note to everyone else in the family. Then they can be read aloud, or read in private. Younger kids can draw a picture and then share what the picture is about.

10. Go on a Valentine Nature Scavenger Hunt

Plan a scavenger hunt in a nearby park or in your backyard. Look for heart shaped items, red items, or different types of flowers. Being in nature together is healing and bonding. If you don’t have those things, plan ahead and hide items outside for the family to find.

11. Heart Attack

Starting on the first day in February and ending on Valentine’s Day. Each family member should place a paper heart on each person’s door. They can write special messages, draw pictures, or decorate it to make it fun and festive. On Valentine’s Day, each person should have 14 very special hearts.

12. Make Origami Hearts

Learning something new is always fun to do together. Follow the directions to make these Origami Hearts!
