With our Rainbow Rice made, and our recent Color Family Painting Activity we are feeling really colorful around our house. To top it all off, we made a cute paper plate rainbow craft that also works as a self correcting tool to learn the colors of the rainbow and what order they appear in. It’s easy and fun and I am excited to share it with you today!

Paper Plate Rainbow Craft to Learn the Colors of the Rainbow: Perfect for spring, weather activities, or St. Patrick's Day

Rainbows are great for Spring time, Weather Units, or St. Patrick’s Day crafts. Looking at the pictures as I write this post I am going to take a mommy moment and say that I love crafting with my kids, and I am so glad you are here with us to enjoy crafts with your kids too. The time we spend together is so valuable. Crafting is more than just creating art; it’s creating memories, spending time together, and having fun! While we made our rainbows my daughter was having so much fun telling me funny stories she was making up, she was being so silly and making me laugh like no one else can. I really wish I could pause time to enjoy moments like these forever!

Directions: How to Make a Rainbow Craft with Kids

Paper Plate Rainbow Craft to Learn the Colors of the Rainbow: Perfect for spring, weather activities, or St. Patrick's Day

1.  Draw a line on the red paper to make a long rectangle to cut out for your rainbow. Draw a line on the orange paper one inch shorter than the red line to form another rectangle to cut out. Continue drawing rectangles one inch shorter than the previous one, until all the colors are ready to be cut out. (A faster way of doing this craft is making the colors of the rainbow all one color, it’s up to you :).

2.  Draw a cloud shape on the paper plate.

3.  Let child cut out the pieces for the rainbow and cloud (I cut my sons out for him). Then have them glue cotton balls onto their paper plate. I give my kids a small plastic lid with a puddle of glue that they can dip their cotton balls into.

4.
Have the child put the rainbow pieces in order (largest to smallest). When she put her pieces in the wrong order I would pull out the two pieces for her to compare the sizes to so she could figure out which color was supposed to come next. Once the colors are in order, glue them to the paper plate. (We glued ours to the back of our paper plate in opposite order so when the paper plate was facing forward the rainbow started with red on the left hand side).
