Kids can make cute little ghosts using our latest homemade Art Recipe. Our glow in the dark puffy paint is super easy to whip up and makes the coolest Halloween crafts with the kids. Once dry, children’s artwork will glow when the lights are turned off. Everyone will love it–it’s the perfect way to decorate this October. You don’t need a blacklight because the paint glows all by itself, but if you have one go ahead and turn it on for an even brighter glow! I have a free craft template for you to make things simple and fun for you and your kids.

We love coming up with new Art Recipes like our Soap Pump Bubble Paint  (which is the coolest way to paint with bubbles). While you are here check it out too. I also want to mention that just because we have a craft template for you doesn’t mean you always have to use it (*gasp*). As you can tell I love Craft Templates because I personally find them so helpful when trying to put something together for my kids to do. Craft templates also help my kids learn fine motor skills like when they cut along a line, or learn the art process like how to assemble pieces together to make a picture, but just because a template is available you don’t always have to use it. So if using templates isn’t your thing I still recommend mixing up a batch of Glow in the Dark Puffy Paint for your kids to make whatever kind of glow in the dark artwork they want to. We made our ghost craft and then used our Glow in the Dark Puffy Paint to decorate a blank piece of paper. We ended up with stars, spooky eyes, and other cute and spooky Halloween designs. So I hope you have fun painting, and don’t forget to turn off the lights.

When you get ready to paint, mix 1/4  cup shaving cream and 1/4 cup glow in the dark puffy paint together. To check and make sure you got the right amount of glow in the dark paint hold it up to the light to charge the paint and then turn off the lights. If you can see it glowing then you are good to start painting, if not, go ahead and add some more puffy paint until the paint glows in the dark after being activated by light. I would like to think the 1:1 ratio would work for everyone but since not every glow in the dark paint is made the same you may need to adjust the ingredients a bit.

Once the paint is mixed use it right away before it looses its puffiness. Children will need to glob it on (yup, glob is a technical painting term, lol) and then spread it around with their paintbrush. Unlike some painting projects, the more paint they use the better! I told my kids to use their paint brushes gently so it didn’t scrape the paint off the paper. After we where done I was thinking a sponge brush may have worked better for my preschooler. Next time, I think I will grab one for him.

Before the paint dries, have kids place googly eyes on their ghosts and use a q-tip to wipe away the paint to make a mouth. We made smiles, but not every craft has to be happy… 🙂

Set their paintings to the side to dry.

Here is my favorite part. When they are dry use a flashlight or hold the ghosts close to a light to activate the paint for a minute. Turn off the lights and watch them glow! Awesome right!?! Don’t forget, if you have a blacklight turn that on too for an even brighter glow!
