Whether you are teaching your child or student, flashcards are a great way to help them learn and memorize any subject at home or school. The problem is that some kids lose interest shuffling through flashcards over and over again but don’t worry, I have a solution!
There are so many card based games that playing with cards feels fun so these flashcard activities are just what you need to turn “study time” into “play time” and get those facts into your kiddos brain so they can answer the questions and ace the test with confidence.
15 Simple Flashcard Activities and Games for Kids

- Flashcard Hunt: Hide the flashcards around the room keeping them easy to see. Name a card and have the child find it and give the answer.
- Flashcard Match: Lay 3 cards out face up on the table and say the answer to one of the cards. Have your child find the card.
- Flashcard Order: Have your child put the cards in order alphabetically, numerically, or other ways that fit the set of flashcards..
- 6 at a Time: Place 6 cards in a line, face down on the table. Roll a dice and select the matching card, then give the answer. Continue rolling until all the cards have been answered then place another set of 6 cards on the table.
- Stack of the Day: Divide the flashcards into stacks and choose one stack to focus on during the day.
- Flashcard Hop: Lay the cards on the floor and ask your child to hop to a specific card and give the answer.
- Flashcard Puzzles: Cut a flashcard into two pieces and have your child match them back together.
- Trace the Answer: Have your child choose a flashcard and trace the answer in a sand tray.
- Relay or Racing Games: Lay the flashcards across the room or yard. Call out a certain flashcard that your kiddo must solve or find. They run to grab it, then run back.
- Speed: Place the cards face down in a pile. Take turns flipping one card over. The first person to identify the card gets it. Continue until the pile is done.
- Flashcard Slap It: Give children an activity fly swatter (one that’s clean and new), a pointer tool, or ruler then have them yell out the answer, slap the card, then pick it up and put it in a pile.
- Flashcard Puzzles: Cut a flashcard into two pieces and have your child match them back together.
- Speed (2+player game): Place the cards face down in a pile. Take turns flipping one card over. The first person to identify the card gets it. Continue until the pile is done.
- Hide and Seek: Place 3-6 flashcards face down on the table. Draw a smiley face on a post it note. Place it under one of the flashcards while your student is not looking. Have them choose a flashcard, and give the answer, when they find the flashcard with the smiley face they get a treat (small candy, cracker, sticker, toy)
- Flashcard Roll It: Use a game board, dice, and small objects as your place marker. Shuffle the flashcards and place them in a pile. Take turns choosing a flashcard, giving the answer, then rolling the dice if the answer is correct, then move the game marker across the board.
