Ice Cream Sensory Play: Frosting Play Dough Recipe

This week it’s all things Ice Cream starting with our recipe for Play Dough Ice Cream. I know there are a lot of recipes floating around, but we needed one that is taste safe for my little toddler. We combined two ingredients from our pantry and came up with a wonderful recipe that smells and even tastes good (although it’s not made for eating, it wont hurt if you try a little). It is so fun to squeeze, shape, and if you flatten it out and then fold it into a ball it looks like ice cream! Cool!

I based my recipe off of one I found by Wild Flower Ramblings, but changed it to match what I had available in my cupboards.

Here is a fun list of other Ice Cream Play Dough Recipes that eventually we will try once Little Dragon is older. Since this activity is made to resemble food, I don’t want to confuse the poor little guy with an activity he can’t eat…I think that would be so frustrating!

Ice Cream Playdough made with Frosting: A taste safe sensory play idea for kids of all ages (Summer, kids activity)

Ingredients:
One can of frosting-We used Pillsbury Pink Lemonade flavor and it smelled divine!
1 1/4 C. flour
Food coloring (optional)

1 batch should be plenty for 2 kids

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Directions:
1.  Stir frosting and flour together, then knead until forms a dough. If it is sticky add a little flour until it no longer sticks to your hand. If it is stiff, add a couple drops of water until it reaches the right consistency.

Doesn’t it look like ice cream?
I gathered cups, ice cream cones, sprinkles, cookie cutters, and tooth picks, and let the kiddos play.
Little Tiger was busy making darling little ice cream play dough cups that looked good enough to eat.
Little Dragon loved poking things into the Play Dough Ice Cream and decorating his treats.
He couldn’t resist trying a few bites of our sweet smelling play dough, the nice thing is I didn’t have to freak out on him or dig in his mouth. The less interrupting of playtime that I have to do is best.
Update: Here is a preview of the other ice cream activities we posted this week:

    I couldn't find the pink lemonade frosting, so tried the neon yellow funfetti variety. The best part was the sprinkles were included. We added just over 1.5 cups of flour for the best consistency.
