One of the best ways to learn is by doing, so with the help of some paper plates and a little inspiration from the birds we built a bird nest craft that’s complete with a little fluffy bird inside. Making this paper plate craft isn’t just fun, it’s a perfect opportunity to teach about the life cycle of birds, eggs, animal homes, spring and migration.

- Craft feathers
- Brown paint
- Paintbrush
- Glue
- Paper plate
- Puff ball
- Orange craft paper
- 2 Googly eyes
Directions:
Cut the paper plate in half (piece a), cut the center out of one of the sides like a “C” shape (piece b). Have child paint the backside of the piece b and the front side of piece a and set aside to dry.
Have child glue pieces of tissue paper, feathers, and sticks to the flat portion of piece a and set aside to dry. Nothing needs to go on the rim of the plate.
Have child glue Spanish moss on the backside of piece b and set aside to dry.
Have child cut a beak out from the orange paper by folding it in half and cutting a small triangle from it. Glue the triangle and the googly eyes to the puff ball to make the bird.
Glue the puff ball bird onto piece a. My kids were having so much fun with their puff ball birds that when we went to glue them on they freaked out so we let our birds stay glue free so they could come and go out of their nest as they pleased :).
