Kids of all ages can make colorful and dainty Tissue Paper Hearts for a FUN and EASY Valentine’s Day craft!

Paper doilies always catch my attention when they start showing up in the stores around Valentine’s Day but I am never sure what to do with them. Their lacy edges always seem so perfect for Valentine’s Day Crafting so this year I bought some and let the kids figure out what to do with them. They came up with a kid friendly heart craft that can be hung in the window to look like stained glass, glued to the front of a homemade card, or hung up to decorate the house with them (ours are currently on our window).

Tissue Paper Heart Craft
Supplies:
Paper doilies
Clear contact paper
Tissue paper (We used red and pink)
Scissors
Glue
Hole punch (optional)
Directions:
1. Cut a heart out of the center of the doily.
I folded the doily in half, traced half a heart, and had my daughter cut it out. She loved opening up the doily to reveal the complete heart.
2. Cut out a piece of contact paper that is larger than the heart cutout and give it to the child to decorate with tissue paper.
My kids used scissors and the hole punch to make tiny pieces of tissue paper. Little Dragon recently turned 3 and is just learning to use scissors. Little Tiger was thrilled to be able to use the hole punch. She has a difficult time with it on paper, but the tissue paper was thin enough she could punch away all by herself. By the end of this craft we had little red and pink dots everywhere–it was like a Valentine’s Day party!
3. Glue the contact paper to the doily, let it dry, and then hang in a window and enjoy.
I find it a nice change from the winter white scene currently taking place in our backyard.
