This Playdough Easter Egg activity combines soft, squishy sensory play with meaningful early math practice in the most engaging way. Children begin by rolling and pressing playdough before cutting out festive egg shapes with a cookie cutter. Then comes the best part — decorating each egg with colorful loose parts like beads, buttons, or pom-poms. The textures, colors, and hands-on experience make this activity irresistible for little learners while strengthening fine motor muscles through pinching, pressing, and placing.
As kids add each loose part, they count carefully, building one-to-one correspondence and number recognition in a natural, playful way. What feels like simple Easter fun is actually supporting foundational math skills, focus, and coordination. It’s an easy, low-prep activity that keeps preschoolers happily engaged while blending creativity, sensory exploration, and early learning all in one invitation to play.

Directions:
Cut out a playdough egg or have your child cut one out.
Let your child pick a number stamp and stamp the playdough egg. Have child name the number and count and place the matching amount of gems on the egg.
Another way to play would be for you to place the gems on the egg and have your child count them, and choose the correct stamp to stamp the playdough egg with.
When the activity is over it’s a perfect time to let your preschooler get creative with the supplies and come up with their own activity.
