How to Use the Dinosaur Counting Mats

The printable Dinosaur Counting Mat is easy to use.

Step 1: Print the printable:

Download and print the Dinosaur counting mat
Laminate it or place in a reusable dry erase pocket

Step 2: Introduce the Activity

Step 3: Demonstrate the Process:

Write a number at the top of each mat (1-20).
Show the children how to use the mat. Pick one mat and demonstrate counting out loud as you place the appropriate number of dinosaur counters on the mat.
Highlight the importance of one-to-one correspondence by touching each counter as you count.
After placing the counters, point to the printed numbers on the left side of the mat and repeat its name. Ask the children to repeat after you to reinforce number recognition.

Step 4: Hands-on Practice
