Opportunity for Kids to Learn

Since bananas are easy to cut, kids can practice their knife skills with a butter knife (not sharp) or plastic knife.

Storing Banana Santas

Bananas in general do not store well once they are cut so once the Banana Santas have been created I recommend eating them right away. (My children had no problem with that).

You can store them in the refrigerator for a short amount of time (30 minutes).

Or if you are making them ahead of time for a party or something, I suggest turning them into a pop.

We found the longer we let our Banana Santas sit, the more the color from the sprinkles runs and decorations began to slide off. They still taste just as yummy, but Santa may look a little tired.

Freezing Your Banana Santa to Make a Pop

You can freeze your Banana Santas to make them like a pop. Once they have been assembled place them on a tray that’s been lined with wax paper and freeze them for one hour. Then they are ready to eat.

  • Banana
  • Strawberry with Stem Cut Off
  • Popsicle Stick/Wooden Skewer/or Paper Straw (We used paper straws for added color and cuteness)
  • White Frosting
  • Black Sugar Pearls (Ball Sprinkles)
  • Multi Colored Pearls (Ball Sprinkles)
  • Optional: Small Marshmallow
  • Optional: Shredded Coconut
  • Optional: Christmas Sprinkles

Directions:

You can watch our short tutorial video or read the directions below.

For your convenience, you can also print the recipe at the end of this post!

Prep:

Place the banana up and down on a cutting board. Make horizontal slices to make a 3 inch piece of banana. If your banana is large enough you could get 3 pieces to use.

Tip: Use the straightest parts of the banana to make it easier to put on your stick so it doesn’t pop through the side.

Carefully slide the banana on your stick. Try to keep it in the middle of the banana.

Cut the stem off the strawberry.

Assembling The Santa

Slide the strawberry on top of the banana with the pointed end of the strawberry facing up like the top of Santa’s hat.

How to make a Santa Banana

Decorating Santa:

Use the white frosting to draw a line across the bottom of the hat and the bottom of the banana. You can also add a dab of frosting on the top of the strawberry with a mini marshmallow to make the “poof” on Santa’s hat.

Optional: Put shredded coconut on the frosting to look like the fluffy stuff on Santa’s clothes.

To make Santa’s eyes push two black ball sprinkles into the middle of the banana. You could also use candy eyes.

To make Santa’s cherry nose, push a red ball below the eyes.

If you have any other Christmas sprinkles, now is the time to decorate all you want.
