As we prepare to usher in a new year, many of us are racking our brains trying to come up with ideas for finger foods to have on hand for a New Year’s Eve party. After all, New Year’s Eve is a time of celebration, and having refreshments people (especially little party guests) can grab while on the go makes everything feel easier.
These New Year’s Pretzel Rod Sparklers fit the bill all the way around!
Last they’re incredibly easy to whip up and only require three ingredients: pretzels, chocolate (or almond bark), and sprinkles. Little hands can help dip, sprinkle, and decorate, making this a fun kitchen activity as well as a treat.
First of all, chocolate-covered pretzels? You really can’t go wrong with that sweet-and-salty combo, and it’s one kids and adults both love.
Secondly, the addition of gold sprinkles makes them look extra special and festive—which kids think is pretty magical, and perfect for ringing in the new year.

You can serve these as a dessert at your party, wrap them up for guests, or tuck them into goody bags as a simple homemade edible gift. They also make a fun kitchen activity for kids! Little helpers can dip the pretzels, sprinkle on the “sparkles,” and proudly show off their creations. It’s an easy, low-stress way to let kids help in the kitchen while making something festive they’ll be excited to eat and share.

Recipe Directions:
- Line parchment paper on a baking sheet.
- Melt chocolate in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, then microwave for an additional 30 seconds, and stir again until the chocolate is fully melted.
- Optional: To make this more kid friendly, use a Electric Chocolate Melting Pot that controls the temperature. My kids use ours all the time!
- Use a spoon to drip the chocolate onto the pretzel rod. I find it easiest to run the chocolate down the length of the rod, and then rotate the rod to repeat until the rod is fully covered. Hold the pretzel rod above the bowl to allow an extra chocolate to drip off before setting it on the parchment paper.
- Add sprinkles as desired while the chocolate is still wet. Allow the chocolate to fully set before serving.
How to Customize Your New Year Pretzel Rod Sparklers
Want to get even more creative? There are so many different options you can play around with! You can use different kinds of sprinkles, drizzle on different types of chocolate, and add any other toppings you want (like nuts, crushed candy, M&Ms, gumdrops, etc). The only limit is your imagination!
How to Store Chocolate-Covered Pretzel Rods
If you’re going to make these New Year Pretzel Rod Sparklers ahead of your event, keep in mind that pretzels do become stale. Be sure to store them in a dry, airtight container at room temperature so that they stay as fresh as possible for your guests (or recipients).
I hope you have fun making this fun and tasty treat . . . and that your New Year is gearing up to be a fantastic one!
