Sunflower seeds are such a fun summer and fall craft material. We recently had a few sunflowers surprise us in our garden, and every time we see them, they make us smile! Inspired by their bright, cheerful blooms, we created this Sunflower Craft with a Free Template that’s perfect for kids to make at home or in the classroom.

This activity uses paper loops to create the sunflower petals and gives kids the option to add real sunflower seeds for a fun, textured touch. Whether you’re celebrating the seasons or tying this into a plant life cycle lesson, it’s a simple and engaging craft with beautiful results.

Step 1: Print the Template
Start by printing out the sunflower stem and leaf template. You can print it on white paper and have kids color it green, or print directly on green paper for a quicker option.

  • The template comes with a classroom template so if you are making more than one craft, you can print out multiple craft templates on one page.

Step 2: Cut Out the Template
Once the stem and leaves are ready, cut them out and set them aside.

Step 3: Make the Petal Loops
Take your yellow paper strips and curve each one into a loop by gluing the two ends together. You can make all your loops the same color or mix and match two different yellow shades for a layered look.
