The Fourth of July is the perfect time to break out the red, white, and blue and create festive decorations that double as keepsakes! This easy Handprint Firework Craft for kids is a fun and meaningful way to celebrate Independence Day while making something you’ll actually want to keep year after year. Each child’s handprint transforms into a burst of colorful fireworks, making this a simple patriotic art project that looks beautiful displayed on the wall.
We used classic red, white, and blue paint for a patriotic theme, but fireworks come in every color of the rainbow—so kids can mix, match, and create their own dazzling sky display. This craft also works perfectly as a family keepsake project: use one large sheet of paper and have each child add their handprint “firework.” Even parents can join in since real fireworks come in all shapes and sizes!
If you’re looking for more easy 4th of July fun, pair this activity with our Cupcake Liner Firework Craft, plus our 4th of July Playdough Mats and Fireworks Foam Sensory Activity for a full day of patriotic play and learning.

Patriotic Handprint Firework Craft
Supplies:
- Black craft paper
- Glue
- Glitter
- Paint
Directions:
1. Cover your child’s hand with paint and have them make handprints on their craft paper.
2. Once the handprints dry, use the glue to make firework bursts, sprinkle the glue with glitter, shake off the extra glitter, and set aside to dry.
I was so excited to hang our fireworks on the wall that I forgot to let them dry, when I came back we had some fireworks dripping onto the floor…eeek, lol 🙂 I think it added to the 4th of July celebration, but you can learn from my mistake, and let the glue dry completely before hanging them up. I hope you have a Happy 4th of July!
