As we were reading the other day, we loved the cute heart illustrations in the book, “The Very Fairy Princess Follows Her Heart,” by Julie Andrews so we made some hearts of our very own and strung them up to make a 3 tiered Valentine’s decoration. We also made a fairy princess crown that works with all the books in the series. When we were done painting, Ms. Tiger was so excited that her crafts matched the ones from the book. She quickly hung her heart decoration on the wall, where it will remain for Valentine’s Day. Since these crayon resist crafts are easy to make, it would be perfect for toddlers (Mr. Tickles was just napping so he missed out on this craft session).

The story is about a little girl who makes some Valentine’s cards for her classmates but forgets them at home. Her solution to her problem is so sweet and makes for a great lesson about kindness, and making the best out of any situation. This post is part of the Read & Play series hosted by The Pleasantest Thing. The Very Fairy Princess Heart Craft

Supplies:
2 Pieces of white craft paper
Crayons (We used purple, pink, and white to match the book)
Paint (We used pink craft paint that I stirred some water into it to make it light)
Paint brush
Ribbon
Scissors
Tape

Directions:
1.  Draw 3 varying sized hearts and cut them out. I folded our paper in half and drew a half of heart on the fold and Ms. Tiger cut them out.
2.  Use the crayons to decorate the hearts, then paint the hearts and set them out to dry.
3. Once they are dry, cut a piece of ribbon and tape it to the back of the hearts to connect them. We put our largest heart at the bottom like the pictures in the book, but you can leave it up to your little artist how they want their heart decoration to look.
