I finally figured out that my favorite type of bird are owls. It may have to do with Harry Potter, or the fact that they are cute with their big eyes and are fascinating with their silent flight.

Why is Crafting with Paper Bags Fun?

The fun thing about crafting with paper bags is you can put things inside the bag to give your craft a three-dimensional look. You can also fill the paper bag with treats, or add it to your lesson about owls so your students could put all their educational materials inside it to take home like maybe an owl pellet or too (or maybe not, lol.)

What Color Should My Owl Be?

You can use brown or white paper bags and solid colored paper for a more traditional owl or use colored paper bags and scrapbooking paper to make a zany owl. You get to choose. Thank goodness paper bags and paper come in all colors!

OWL PAPER BAG KIDS CRAFT

SUPPLIES:

Owl Template and Directions

Paper Bag-Lunch Size (Any color)

Colored Craft Paper

Markers

Scissors

Glue

Stapler

Optional: Filling for paper bag (We used 2 grocery bags, you could also use magazines, newspaper, packing pillows, or other recycled material)

Paper Bag Owl Craft for Template for Kids

DIRECTIONS:

Printable directions are included with the template. Watch our video tutorial.

Print the owl template body and wings out on craft paper. I printed the template out several times and let the kids mix and match the colors to make a multi-colored owl.

Fold the corners of the top of the paper bag in. The top of the paper bag will look like a point. This will be the owl’s beak.

Fold the point down and staple the right and left corners to secure the bag closed.

Use the markers to decorate the owl template. You could get even more creative with extra craft supplies like feathers, puff balls, or other crafty things you have.

Color the beak orange.

Cut out the eyes and glue the white circle to the largest black circle, then glue the smallest black circle on the top.

Cut out the template and glue it to the paper bag. The tummy goes on the middle of the bag. The right and left wings go on the right and left of the front of the paper bag. The eyes go near the folds at the top of the paper bag.
