Silly Monster Paper Plate Craft for Kids

My kids have been worried about monsters lately so we needed a way to make them silly and not scary. This easy Paper Plate Craft did the trick… now they always have a monster in their room and it’s no big deal. This craft is also perfect for a less-scary Halloween Craft for little kids.

You may also like our Silly Monster Puppets that we made out of a chiffon duster from the dollar store and check out more monster crafts by the Kids Craft Stars (KCS) at the bottom of this post. You can also follow the KCS on Pinterest and Instagram. Just in case you missed it, previous themes have been Ocean Crafts, Recycled CD Crafts, Children’s Book Themed Crafts and Tissue Paper Crafts.

Here is a funny book by Mo Willems called Leonardo, the Terrible Monster (affiliate link)  and to help the kids even more with their monster fear, we have been watching Monsters Inc. and Monsters University… I am also trying to convince my daughter to dress up as Boo for Halloween so I can dress my husband up as Sully–I’m pretty sure the daddy-daughter duo would be adorable.

Monster Paper Plate Craft

Pin me please! 🙂

Supplies:
Paper plates (1 large and 1 small)
Craft paint
Paint brush
Scissors
Glue
Monster decorations (here are some ideas)

  • Googly eyes
  • Tissue paper (affiliate link)
  • Paper shreds (affiliate link)-perfect for hair
  • Markers
  • Glitter
  • Puff balls

Directions:

1.  Have child paint the paper plates and set it out to dry.

2.  Cut the paper plates out in your desired monster shape and glue the monster together. My kiddos wanted me to cut out their monster shapes, but depending on your child’s skill level, they can always cut out their own.

3.  Finally the best part, have child decorate their monster and when they are done proudly display it.

Monsters are my favorite – there's no right or wrong way to make them. Great open-ended idea!

This is really fun! I like how they are all a bit different, and the excess use of eyes makes me smile as that's totally what my son would do! I have pinned this! Found via #pintorials
