My son ALWAYS has toy cars in his hand so we came up with an easy game for him to do while learning how to form letters, name letters, and make letter sounds. He thinks it’s a blast to play because he gets to crash his cars, and I love watching him learn while he is having fun.
We used our wooden handwriting without tears lines and curves to make our letters. They are one of our favorite learning tools and come in handy with so many activities. You may also enjoy using these Handwriting Without Tears worksheets to go along with your wooden pieces.
If you don’t have wooden pieces you can make some homemade manipulatives by cutting out craft foam. All you need is long lines, short lines, big curves, and short curves.
Letter Crash Learning Game with Toy Cars
Supplies:
Pieces to make letters or toy letters
Toy cars
We used sticks and curves from Handwriting Without Tears Wood Pieces (affiliate link) and his favorite cars. You can always use toy letters to crash into or make your own lines and curves with craft foam, paint sticks, or wood.
Directions:
1. Build a letter (or place a toy letter down), name the letter, and have child make the letter sound or say name of the letter as they crash their car into the letter.
Little Dragon loved watching the letter break apart and thought it was hilarious to make the letter sounds.
You can adapt this activity and have kids build letter blends to crash into like sh, th, fr, ch… Whatever you have your kiddos say when they crash– they will be having lots of fun!
