  • Letter manipulatives (We used our Unifix Letter Set–we love them!)
  • Paper bowl
  • Packing peanuts (We used the biodegradable ones, but found out they melted with glue so I suggest regular packing peanuts or cotton balls)

 Build an Igloo

Cut out a door in the paper bowl.
Have children glue packing peanuts onto the bowl to make the igloo.
For an extra engineering challenge you can let children attempt to build their own igloo without the paper bowl. We originally used bio-degradable packing peanuts for this activity but found out that was a mistake because our igloo met the fate of every igloo and melted from the water in the glue. If you aren’t a fan of packing peanuts you could also use sugar cubes, marshmallows, puff balls, or whatever you have on hand.

 Letter Igloo

I found this free printable here at www.preschoolprintables.com.  I printed it out and gave the kids a set of our Unifix Letter Cubes-affiliate link  which just so happen to be mostly blue like ice cubes (which I thought was pretty cool for this activity).

My kid’s picked an “ice block” out and found its match on the igloo. My daughter matched lowercase to uppercase letters and my son matched uppercase to uppercase letters because that is what he is more familiar with. Eventually he will work on lowercase to lowercase letters–probably next year.

I is for Igloo Craft

Print the craft template (available below for free) out on white paper.

Have children cut out the pieces for the letter I and glue them onto a blue piece of paper.

Have children cut out the igloo, color or decorate it, and then glue it onto their letter craft.
