How to Decorate Cupcakes Like an Owl
Step 1: Tootsie Roll Ears
Warm the tootsie rolls in your hand or place them in a bowl of warm water. Once they are soft, cut the tootsie roll in half with a knife or scissors. Shape each half into a triangle shape to make the ears.
Step 2: Oreo Eyes
Slowly twist the top off of two mini Oreos, making sure to leave the frosting on one side. Press a chocolate chip or brown M&M into the frosting to make the pupils. Where you place them will give your owl character. If you place them in the center, your owl will be staring straight ahead, if you place them to the side, your owl can look in a certain direction.
Step 3: Owl Body
Frost the top of your cupcakes. We used our favorite buttercream recipe here <—. In the middle of your cupcake, place the coconut in a triangle shape to look like owl feathers.
Step 4: Owl Face
To make the beak, place an orange M&M at the top of the triangle.
To place the eyes, put the prepared Oreos on either side of the beak.
To place the ears, put the prepared tootsie rolls at the top of the cupcake above the eyes.
Optional:
Use a fork to gently press lines into the frosting to make wings and feathers.
Now your cupcakes look like cute little owls!
They would look absolutely perfect served on this Rustic Wood Cupcake Stand or on this Harry Potter Cupcake Stand, it even has Hedwig the Owl at the top!
Notes:
You can decorate your owl cupcakes ahead of time, and then store them in an airtight container until you are ready to serve them.
