Total Time 1 minute

Ingredients

Owl Cupcake Decoration Ingredients (per owl cupcake)

  • Cupcakes-cooled and ready to decorate
  • 1 Mini Tootsie Roll (aka midgees)
  • 2 Mini Oreos (or small frosted cookies)
  • 2 Chocolate Chips or Brown M&Ms
  • 5-10 Coconut Strips (Dried coconut slices or coconut flakes, you can toast them in the oven to add color)
  • 1 Orange M&M (or another small orange candy or a piece of an orange tootsie roll that's been shaped to look like a beak)
  • Frosting (Chocolate for a brown owl, Vanilla for a white owl, or add food coloring to make owls that match your theme)

Instructions

Step 1: Tootsie Roll Ears

  • Warm the tootsie rolls in your hand or place them in a bowl of warm water. Once they are soft, cut the tootsie roll in half with a knife or scissors. Shape each half into a triangle shape to make the ears.

Step 2: Oreo Eyes

  • Slowly twist the top off of two mini Oreos, making sure to leave the frosting on one side. Press a chocolate chip or brown M&M into the frosting to make the pupils. Where you place them will give your owl character. If you place them in the center, your owl will be staring straight ahead, if you place them to the side, your owl can look in a certain direction.

Step 3: Owl Body

  • Frost the top of your cupcakes. In the middle of your cupcake, place the coconut in a triangle shape to look like owl feathers.

Step 4: Owl Face

  • To make the beak, place an orange M&M at the top of the triangle.
  • To place the eyes, put the prepared Oreos on either side of the beak.
  • To place the ears, put the prepared tootsie rolls at the top of the cupcake above the eyes.

Optional:

  • Use a fork to gently press lines into the frosting to make wings and feathers.
