If you’re looking for a quick and easy Christmas craft for kids, this popsicle stick Christmas tree is perfect! My daughter actually came up with this idea all on her own, and I instantly fell in love with it. The simple triangle-fan shape makes the cutest little Christmas tree, and kids can decorate it any way they like. You can even add a photo inside to turn it into a picture frame keepsake!
One of my favorite parts? You can use it in so many different ways. Add your child’s picture to turn it into a photo frame ornament, let it stand up on its own as a DIY Christmas decoration, or fill in the middle for a full Christmas tree craft. Or, like my daughter, keep it simple with the classic popsicle-stick outline.

Popsicle Stick Christmas Tree Craft
Supplies
- Popsicle sticks ( We used these wide popsicle sticks or use these green popsicle sticks to cut down on drying time and mess)
- Green paint
- Glue
- Paintbrush
- Optional: Christmas stickers, mini pom poms, sequins, or white paint for snow, child’s photo
🌲 Instructions
Keep things simple and grab a copy of the printable directions, available at the end of this post.
1. Paint the Popsicle Sticks
Start by painting your popsicle sticks green. You’ll need enough sticks to create two “fan” shapes—usually 6–10 sticks depending on the size of your tree.
Option: Use already colored popsicle sticks for faster crafting.
2. Create Two Fans
Divide the painted sticks into two groups. Glue the tips together so each group forms a fan shape. Let the glue dry completely.
We used 4 popsicle sticks on each side to make our Christmas tree photo frame.
3. Form the Christmas Tree Shape
Glue the two fans together at the top so they make a triangle-shaped tree.
Optional: Glue a popsicle stick to the back so the tree can stand on its own.
4. Decorate!
Kids can keep the tree simple or decorate it:
- Photo tree: Glue a child’s photo to the back to turn it into a photo frame keepsake.
- Paint ornaments: Use the back of a paintbrush to dot colorful circles.
- Snow: Dot white paint for a snowy effect.
- Stickers: Add Christmas stickers for easy decorating.
