I think Nature Crafts always turn out beautiful because mother nature has already put in her helping hand, and we are just adding to it. Since today’s craft used sticks the kids and I went on a stick and dragonfly hunt but sadly we didn’t find any dragonflies so we googled them before we started crafting to check out their features and colors. As we crafted we talked about the parts of a dragonfly (head, thorax, abdomen, wings) and when we were done crafting the kids took off to play–dragonflies in hand. Dragonfly wings were flapping through the house for a good hour as the kids raced and had flying contests. When we made this craft I had no idea it would turn into such an engaging imaginative play activity!

Dragonfly Stick Craft
Supplies:
Stick (ours are around 5 inches or so)
Paint brush
Scissors
Glue or Glue Dots-affiliate link (We used glue dots because they make crafting faster-no drying time, easier, and less messy.)
Yarn or twine
Craft gems-affiliate link (optional)
Directions:
Have child paint two coffee filters and set them aside to dry. We used coffee filters to use the wings which worked great because they flapped easily in the wind as the kids were playing. If you are planning on hanging up your craft you may want to use craft paper so the wings stay up instead of drooping down.
Have child wrap twine around their stick to make the dragonfly’s thorax. Tie a knot at the end to secure the twine.
Have child glue a craft gem at the end of the stick for the dragonfly’s head and set aside to dry.
Have child cut out 4 wings and glue them to the stick and set aside to dry.
Once everything is dry the kids can hang their dragonfly up or do what my kids did and play with them.
