My kids especially loved using the colorful craft sand! They had so much fun choosing different colors for each section of the sandcastle. The bright sand added a fun pop of color and created a textured 3D effect that made their artwork look even bright and cheery for summer!

Tips for Younger Kids
Pre-cut the template pieces to make the project easier and allow younger children to focus on gluing and creating.
Skip small details if needed. Younger children can create a simple sandcastle without adding every window or decorative element. The nice things about sandcastles is they always look different.
Draw instead of cut. Children who are still developing scissor skills can draw doors, windows, and decorations directly onto the sandcastle.
Book Recommendation
The Sandcastle Contest by Robert Munsch is one of my kids’ favorite books to read every summer! This funny beach story follows a group of children competing to build the best sandcastle, but things don’t go quite as planned. The silly surprises and creative sandcastle designs make it the perfect companion to this sandcastle art project. Reading the story before or after making your craft can spark ideas and get kids excited about building their own sandy creations. Learn more about this book here.
