These little spiral snails are going to make you smile. They are easy to make and you get to use old newspaper which is always fun (and cheap) crafting with recyclables! Snail crafts are perfect for spring when they start to appear during the rainy season, after picking them out of the garden, or while learning about mollusks. I know many people don’t get newspapers anymore because so much awesome information (like this informative and important blog post about a snail craft–hehe) is available online for free so if you don’t have a newspaper on hand you could plan ahead and go buy one or do what I did and use grocery ads that were printed on newspaper paper–even a long piece of craft paper would work.

Spiral Snail Newspaper Kids Craft
Supplies:
Newspaper/grocery ads
Craft paint
Paint brush
2 Googly eyes per snail
Black pen
Pipe cleaners
Tape
Directions:
Starting at one corner, roll up the newspaper to make a long tube and secure the end with tape so it doesn’t unravel (I helped both my children with this step).
Have child paint the newspaper tube and set aside to dry.
Bend the newspaper around to make a spiral shape. Leave a tail (you will turn it into the head in the next step). Secure the spiral with tape.
Bend the “tail” to make a head and secure with tape. Let child glue eyes on, draw a face, and tape pipe cleaners on for the snail’s antenna and the craft is done. We taped our snails to the table so they would stand up. My kids kept calling their snails Turbo-affiliate link because it’s been a favorite movie around here lately… what’s not to love about a racing snail who doesn’t let others keep him from his dreams.
