My family and extended family is a big melting pot of different cultures so my kids are no strangers to people having different types of hair, skin, eyes… but until now we have never really acknowledged that we all look different.

My eldest child just turned 5 and I realize as she becomes more aware of herself, she is noticing differences in others. I want her to learn that differences are beautiful so she treats others with kindness no matter what they look like as well as realizing her differences make her unique and special. With Martin Luther King, Jr. Day coming up I thought it would be a perfect time to incorporate learning about diversity while celebrating the courageous works of MLK this January.
