You can’t have summer without playing with water which is why we love our latest DIY project, Homemade Water Bombs! They are super simple and cheap to make and the best part is they are a reusable way for kids to cool down with a splash and you don’t have to constantly fill them up or pick up broken pieces when the fun is done so you can put the water balloons away, and get ready for some summer fun!
I can’t believe we didn’t make these before! They took all of maybe 10 minutes to make and all I had to do was grab some sponges and yarn out of the closet and we were ready to play! My kids LOVED throwing their Water Bombs around. Not only did they get splashed a lot, they didn’t get hurt at all by getting hit by them (which can happen with water balloons). They discovered one of their favorite things to do with them is fill them up with water and bounce them around on our trampoline. When they are done playing with them we set them out to dry so they can stay fresh for the next time we are ready to play!

How to Make Sponge Water Bombs
SUPPLIES
-
- 2 Sponges per water bomb (I love this O-Cel-O Sponges Pack-affiliate link because it comes with 4 sponges to a pack, and each one is a different color to make a cuter water bomb)
- Scissors
- Pen
- Ruler
- Yarn
O-Cel-O Handy Sponges, Assorted Colors, 4 Count (Pack of 4) Total 16 SpongesFiskars 01-004761J Softgrip Scissors Straight Stainless Steel, 8 InchLion Brand Yarn 595-216 Color waves Yarn, Rainbow
DIRECTIONS
Cut the sponges longways into strips. I used a gel pen to draw lines 3/4 of an inch apart on the sponge. I got 4 strips out of each sponge.
Use some yarn to tie sponge strips together in the middle. I put 6 strips into each bomb.
Now your bomb is ready. Get some water, grab the kids, and have fun!!!
