Corn Husk Turkey Craft for Kids

It’s the beginning of November and I am already dreaming about enjoying a delicious Thanksgiving turkey dinner. To get some decorations on the wall, we made a corn husk turkey craft. It was fun painting on something other then paper, and the corn husks make super cute feathers, don’t you agree? :).

Supplies:

• Paint
• Paint brush
• Glue
• Scissors
• Brown paper
• Paper Plate (Optional)
• Small dried corn husks (If you don’t have corn husks you could use paper)

We used about 5 corn husks per turkey. I just pulled a few pieces off of each corn. When I was done I couldn’t even tell anything was missing until Mr. Tickles got a hold of the corn and pulled the remaining husks off (Oh dear…).

We glued our turkey to a paper plate at the last minute. It made it easier for Mr. Tickles (age 1.75) to be able to glue all by himself. You could use a paper plate like we did, or a piece of paper, or just glue the feathers on to the body to make a free standing turkey. It’s up to you 🙂

Directions:

1.  Paint the corn husks and paper plate and set them out to dry.

The kids started out with 2 different methods of painting. Ms. Tiger brushed the corn husks and Mr. Tickles dotted the corn husks.

Eventually the paint brush was put down and hands were used instead!

2.  Cut out the turkey from the printable.

3.  Glue the corn husk feathers to the turkey, or to your paper plate. We used a lot of glue to get them to stick well.

4.  Glue the turkey body on top of the corn husk feathers and to the paper plate.
