I love dinosaur activities and crafts, and I think dinosaurs are such a fun theme for kids because they spark curiosity, imagination, and endless opportunities for learning. My daughter recently asked if we could get some more toy dinosaurs, since her brother’s cars had taken over the house! Ultimately, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to switch things up with some roaring dinosaur crafts and activities for my kids and yours.

From cute paper plate dinosaurs to hands-on fossil digs, these projects bring prehistory to life in the most creative ways. Whether you’re teaching a dinosaur unit, planning a themed party, or just looking for a rainy-day activity, you’ll find tons of fun ideas below that inspire kids to play, learn, and explore together.

A collection of dinosaur crafts and activities

As you scroll through, you’ll see that each project mixes creativity with a little bit of learning (but in a totally fun way—no one wants boring crafts, right?). DIY dinosaur crafts encourage imagination, fine motor skills, and even a few dinosaur facts along the way. Many of these dinosaur activities for preschoolers use simple things you probably already have at home, so you can set them up in a snap. It’s a great way to combine art, science, and play, and the kids will love showing off their creations.

In addition to all the creative crafts featured above, you’ll find that imaginative play truly brings these dino-themed projects to life. From roaring stomp games to make-your-own fossil digs, incorporating movement and hands-on exploration helps children not only build fine motor skills but also deepen their understanding of prehistoric creatures. Plus, as a bonus, you’ll likely spark curiosity and conversation. Kids may ask, “Which dinosaur lived here?” or “What fossil did we just uncover?” This makes it more than just a craft day: it becomes a mini adventure.

  1. Hi Katie! Thank you for featuring eager Ed's Archaeological Dig. We love your dinosaur dig activity and awesome printable. Thank you!

  2. Lots of fun ideas Katie – great roundup! My son is not into dinosaurs yet…I keep waiting for it! Although we did read a fun Aliki book last night where a couple kids visit a museum to see dinosaur skeletons and I told my son there's a museum like that in Toronto pretty close to us and he said he wanted to go. We'll have to book a trip and see what happens!
