Originally I had planned on melting candy melts, but my kids were in the kitchen with me brainstorming how to make nutter butter penguin cookies and I didn’t want to make them by myself because I love their company. So I came up with a better and more kid friendly idea so they could get crafty with their food too. Since our trip to Walmart to get our supplies they had been begging me to open the Nutter Butters so there was no way of sending them away!
Supplies
- Nutter Butters (Use this coupon: Nutter Butter Coupon from Walmart)
- Peanut butter, chocolate spread, or frosting
- Black food coloring
- Orange gummy candy (we used orange taffy)
- White candy melts
- Candy Eyes
- Scissors
- Small spatula
- Knife (for adults)
- Small bowl
Directions:
1. To prepare, spoon some peanut butter or chocolate spread into your bowl and mix in some black food coloring. Use knife to carefully cut some candy melts in half for the wings. We used white candy melts for them to stand out more, but you could always use black candy melts to look more like a penguin. Some of them cracked when I cut them, I found the best way was to gently saw back and forth until I was completely through the melt. Don’t cut all of them because you need some for the tummy. Cut the orange candy into small triangles for a beak.
2. “Paint” your nutter butter penguins!
Each penguin needs a Nutter Butter, 2 candy eyes, orange beak, 1 candy melt cut in half, one whole candy melt, and peanut butter spread. Give to child and have them spread the peanut butter on the Nutter Butter. Have them decorate their penguin by adding eyes, beak, wings, and tummy and their done. The next part is the best part–to enjoy your tasty treat!
