We have been learning about the rainforest for this week’s Creative Preschool theme. Since we have been doing a lot of water coloring I thought it would be fun to make up some rainforest themed coloring pages that allow creativity. There are 10 pages total (butterfly, caiman, snake, frog, jaguar, gorilla, monkey, sloth, parrot, tree), and each page features one thing from the jungle while leaving the rest of the page blank where the child can fill in the scene by using their imagination.

Before I gave a coloring page to Little Tiger (age 4, preschooler) I held one page up and we talked about what elements could complete the scene (“the bird is sitting on a branch…maybe we could draw a tree”). The first couple of pictures she painted was her typical ladybugs and butterflies (top), but as she kept going she started to think outside her regular box and fill in the scene with new things she had never painted before (bottom). I love her rainbow colored jaguar… shouldn’t everything be rainbow colored? 🙂

I printed out some of the pages for me so I could paint alongside the kids. So parents, feel free to join in the fun. It’s great to do things side by side with your kiddos.
