The other day after popping a batch of chocolate chip cookies in the oven with the kids we settled down to story time with one of our favorite cookie books, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie-affiliate link by Laura Numeroff. Once the story was over and our cookies were out of the oven it seemed only natural that we make a cookie craft while we waited for our cookies to cool–yummy! To complete our activities I put together some free printable If You Give A Mouse a Cookie Craft and Activities so the kids could color, practice their pre-writing, counting, and more!

Learning Ideas to Go with If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
After reading the story and making your mouse craft, try a few simple learning activities to extend the fun. These easy ideas build early reading, math, and fine motor skills in a playful, hands-on way. Several of these ideas are easier with our free printable which includes sequencing and handwriting activities.
Sequence the Story
Talk about what happened first, next, and last. Have kids draw or arrange pictures of the events in order to practice storytelling and comprehension.
Letter M for Mouse
Practice writing the letter M. You can also build the letter using playdough, chocolate chips, or small cookies.
Chocolate Chip Counting
Give each child a paper cookie. Roll a die and add that many “chips” using stickers, pom-poms, or dot markers.
Favorite Cookie Graph
Ask kids to choose their favorite cookie flavor and create a simple picture graph. Compare which cookie has the most votes.
Act Out the Story
Use simple props like a paper cookie and cup to act out the story. Kids love pretending to be the mouse and following the silly chain of events.
Bake Real Cookies Together
If you have time, bake cookies and talk about measuring, mixing, and what happens in the oven. It’s a sweet way to explore basic math and science concepts.

Hi Jan, No problem at all. It’s nice to be able to share them with others instead of just my 2 kiddos. 🙂
