All you need to do is mix up a batch of chalk paint (3 ingredient recipe below) and make homemade Chalk Bombs (directions below) and your ready to have an ultimate art experience with your kids! So I’m sure your wondering, how messy is this activity? If you are scared of a mess have no fear, one bath and your child should return to normal and since this is a chalk activity you can do it outside and clean up with the hose or if your painting inside just cover your kiddos work area with a plastic tablecloth.

My Little Dragon, age 5, even laid down in his chalk art and with a quick rinse in the hose his clothes were back to normal too. With that said you may want to dress your kids in old clothes, bathing suits, or painting smocks. Your kids will love making their artwork whatever the outcome it will totally be worth it!

Paint along with us or continue below to written directions :).

Cut sponges longways into strips. I used a gel pen to draw lines 3/4 of an inch apart on the sponge. I was able to get 4 strips out of each sponge.

DIRECTIONS

Mix 2 cups water, 1/2 cup cornstarch, and food coloring together. At first it will feel hard to stir because cornstarch and water make a funny mixture called oobleck (a non Newtonian Mixture) but just keep working at it until it is all mixed through. Now your paint is ready. (The picture below is what the cornstarch and water mixture looks like before any food coloring is added in)

We have made this paint before and stored it in a container with a lid. The kids like painting the sidewalk with it when not using their Chalk Bombs.

How to Use Chalk Bombs

Dip the sponge paint Bombs into the paint and throw! The target is up to you, we used extra thick card stock because the paint is watery and we didn’t want our paint to rip the paper. We also decorated our sidewalk, tree trunks, and anything else that happened to be in the line of fire.
