Prep:
- Fill your cupcake pan with cupcake liners. Do this ahead of time because when you are building your nests, you want to have them made before the chocolate solidifies.
Step 1: Melt the Chocolate and Peanut Butter
- In a microwave safe bowl, mix together the peanut butter and semi sweet chocolate then microwave at 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until the mixture is smooth. Or use a pot on the stove, making sure to stir frequently so the chocolate doesn't burn.
Step 2: Add Branches aka Cereal
- Crumble the cereal into pieces then pour it into the chocolate mixture and stir until the cereal is completely coated with chocolate.
Step 3: Build a Nest
- Place a heaping tablespoon full of the chocolate mixture into each cupcake liner.Press the back of a spoon into the mixture to create a bird nest shape so the eggs can fit in the middle without falling out.To harden the chocolate quickly, place the cupcake pan of nests into the freezer for 15 minutes.Once the chocolate nests have hardened you can remove them from the cupcake liners.
Step 4: Fill the Nest--Lay Eggs and Enjoy!
- Put your coconut in a plastic bag and add some green food coloring. Close the bag and shake the coconut to coat the pieces with the green color. Add more food coloring as needed. This part is really fun for kids to do. Sprinkle a little of the green coconut in each nest.Place 3 candy eggs in the middle of each nest. Now they are ready to be enjoyed! For an extra cute touch, sprinkle extra green coconut on your serving tray and place the Chocolate Easter Egg Nests on top.
