Witches Broom Cheese Dip Halloween Recipe

With a few simple ingredients, you can give your Halloween snack a witchy makeover with this homemade cheese dip and witches broom recipe.

Ingredients

For the Cheese Sauce
  • 2 cups Grated Velveeta cheese
  • 3/4 cup Heavy Cream
  • 2 tbs Flour
  • 1 1/2 tbs Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For the Witches Broom
  • 10 Pretzel sticks short (or break long sticks in half)
  • 3 Sheets of phyllo dough
  • Small piece of puff pastry
  • 1 Small egg (beaten)

Method

1. Making the Witches Brooms
  1. Cut the Dough: Cut the phyllo dough into thin strips using scissors for the rods. Make sure to keep the phyllo dough under a damp towel, as it dries out quickly.
  2. Shape the Puff Pastry: Cut the puff pastry into small rectangles and thin strips with a sharp knife. These will form the bristles of the broom.Wrap the bottom of the pretzel stick with puff pastry and dip the puff pastry in the beaten egg to help it stick.Arrange the phyllo rods and wrap a thin strip of puff pastry around them.Carefully place your witches' brooms on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Be gentle, as the brooms may fall apart before they bake. Bake in a preheated oven at 356°F for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown.
2. Making the Cheese Sauce
  1. Pour the olive oil into a pan, add the flour and sauté it for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  2. Add the Cream: Slowly pour the room-temperature cream into the pan, continuing to stir. Once the mixture begins to thicken, reduce the heat to low.
  3. Add salt and pepper to taste for the perfect seasoning.Incorporate the Cheese: Gradually add the grated Velveeta cheese in batches, stirring continuously with a hand whisk. Make sure the cheese melts fully before adding the next portion. Keep stirring until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.
Pour the sauce into a pot and serve with the witches' brooms. Happy Halloween!

    Notes

Avoid Dry Dough: Phyllo dough can dry out quickly, so always keep it covered with a damp towel when not in use.
Perfect Broom Shape: Use a spatula to transfer the unbaked broomsticks onto the tray to prevent them from falling apart.
Smooth Sauce: If the cheese sauce becomes too thick, add a splash of cream to thin it out and keep it smooth.
Storage: If making the cheese dip ahead of time, store it in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat it before serving.
