Materials

  • Paper plates
  • Tissue paper (pre-cut squares work great for a mosaic look)
  • Clear contact paper
  • Scissors
  • Printable template
  • Crayons, markers, paint (We used paint sticks for quick drying and bright colors)

Instructions

  • Start by cutting an egg shape out of the center of a paper plate. This will create the frame for your suncatcher.
Cut a piece of clear contact paper slightly larger than the egg opening. Attach it to the back of the paper plate so the sticky side is facing up through the opening. You can secure it with glue or tape if needed.
Invite kids to cover the sticky surface with tissue paper pieces. Layering colors creates a beautiful stained-glass effect.
Print the template and have kids color their animal. Carefully cut out the animal from the template. Young children may need help with this step.
Attach the colored animal to the back of the tissue paper with glue or tape.
Hold the suncatcher up to a window or take it outside into the sunlight to reveal the surprise inside the egg.
