Materials

  • Popsicle sticks (4 per scarecrow)
  • Scissors (for adults to cut popsicle sticks)
  • Glue
  • Yellow paper
  • Markers, crayons, or paint for decorating (Brown, Blue, or colors of your choice)
  • Optional: cardboard or cardstock paper as a base

Instructions

  • Step 1 – Make the base
Line up 3 popsicle sticks side by side.Cut a 4th popsicle stick into small pieces and glue them across the back to hold everything together.Tip: Adults can use scissors to cut popsicle sticks, or you can skip cutting and simply glue the sticks onto cardboard for a kid-friendly option (though it won’t be as sturdy).
  • Step 2 – Add straw hair
Cut yellow paper into thin strips.Glue the strips to the top of your popsicle stick base so they stick out like straw hair. Angle them outward for a fun effect.
  • Step 3 – Create the hat
Paint (or color) the top of the popsicle sticks brown to look like a hat.Cut another piece of popsicle stick (or brown paper) and glue it horizontally across to make the brim of the hat.
  • Step 4 – Dress your scarecrow
Use paint or markers to draw clothing details like a shirt or overalls on the popsicle sticks.
  • Step 5 – Draw a face
Add eyes, a nose, and a mouth to bring your scarecrow to life. Kids can make silly, happy, or spooky scarecrow faces!
