Materials

  • 1 paper plate per craft
  • Paint and paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers, stickers, or craft paper
  • Free Template (available for download at the end of this post)
  • Optional: buttons, washi tape, or ribbon for extra flair!

Instructions

  • Start by having your child paint the paper plate in their favorite “shirt” color. Solid colors or patterned designs both look great. Let the paint dry completely before the next step.
  • Use the template as a guide to cut both sides of the paper plate so it begins to look like a shirt shape. This helps the final collar sit better and gives it that shirt silhouette!
  • Cut a small slit at the top center of the plate and cut inward about 2–3 inches on both sides. Then fold each flap toward the center to form the collar. You’ll see it come together instantly—so cute!
  • Print out the free tie template and let your child go wild decorating it. They can color it with markers, add stickers, or glue on cut pieces of paper for a fun mosaic look.
  • Cut out the decorated tie and glue it under the folded collar flaps. Press down gently to make sure everything sticks.

Notes

  • Write a special message to Dad on the back!
  • Glue on buttons
  • Add a paper pocket and tuck in a special message or treat for Dad!
  • Tape a craft stick to the bottom to turn it into a puppet or sign.
