Pretty Pumpkin and Leaf Cinnamon Ornaments: Fall Craft for Kids

Enjoy this creative Fall Craft for Kids to make cinnamon ornament pumpkins and leaves out of our craft dough recipe. They will leave your home or classroom smelling sweet.

Equipment

  • 2 Tbs Craft Glue
  • 1 Cup Cinnamon
  • 3/4 Cup Applesauce
  • 2 Tbs Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • Acrylic Paint 
  • Glitter Glue
  • Autumn Cookie Cutter Set
  • Straw
  • Ribbon or Yarn
  • Rolling Pin

Instructions

  • Mix all the ingredients together to make dough. You may need to remind kids that this activity is not for eating because it smells so good!
  • Use the rolling pin to roll out the dough. If it is a bit sticky put some extra cinnamon on your surfaces (rolling pin and counter) so it doesn't stick.
    Use the cookie cutter to make ornament shapes. My kids love making cookies, so this craft was familiar and fun for them to make. If you plan on hanging them up use the straw to poke a hole in the top. Make sure it is big enough because it will shrink a little when baked.
  • Bake at 200 degrees F. for 2-2/1.5 hours.
  • Once they are cool to touch, let kids paint them with acrylic paint and glitter glue.
  • Once the ornaments are dry, put a piece of ribbon, thread it through the hole, and tie it together so it can be hung up.
