This S’Mores Reindeer Treat Christmas Cake Jar just might become one of your family’s favorite Christmas traditions!
Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 35 minutes

Equipment

  • Six 8 oz Glass Jars
  • Parchment Paper
  • Chocolate Squeeze Bottles or you can use a piping bag with a small hole
  • Medium Size Bowl or Chocolate Melter (We love ours because the kids can use it on their own).
  • Kitchen Torch or Oven (I always love it when I find a reason to use my torch, lol)
  • Ice Cream Scoop
  • Decorative Ribbon/String/Twine (optional)

Ingredients

Instructions

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate candy melts in the microwave by heating it in 30-second intervals, making sure to stir in between each interval or you can use your chocolate melting pot. Once the chocolate is smooth. carefully pour it into your Chocolate Squeeze Bottles or a piping bag. Cut a small hole at the tip of the piping bag so that a small line of chocolate can come out.
  • To make the antlers, pipe/draw a small vertical line on parchment paper. Then pipe a tiny horizontal line going outward. Be creative and make as many points on the antlers as you wish. Each reindeer will need 2 antlers, so make enough for your jars and make a few extra in case some break. You can choose to make one reindeer or two reindeer per jar. We added 2 reindeer per jar, so we needed 4 antlers for each treat, and 24 total... to make sure we had enough we made 30 antlers. Set your antlers to the side so they can harden. It takes about 2-4 minutes.
  • To make the reindeer, grab 3 graham crackers and split them into 4 rectangles. Using your chocolate squeeze bottle/piping bag, pipe two small circles at the top of the crackers. Gently attach a chocolate antler to each circle. If your chocolate cooled too much, pop your bottle or bag in the microwave at 10-second intervals to warm it up again. To add the eyes, pipe 2 small dots below the antlers and place eye sprinkles on the top of those dots. To add the nose put 1 drop of chocolate below the eyes. You can use red chocolate to make Rudolph or brown chocolate to make the other reindeer. Continue until you have made all the reindeer you would like for your jars. Set them to the side.
  • Optional: To decorate the rim of the jar put red and green sprinkles on a plate. Pour melted chocolate into a bowl or if your chocolate melter is wide enough for the rim of the jar to be dipped into, prepare chocolate in it. You can reuse the chocolate from your chocolate squeeze bottle/piping bag. Dip your glass jar into the bowl of chocolate to coat the rim. Roll the rim of the glass jar in the sprinkles so they attach to the chocolate-covered portion. Repeat until all your jars are prepared. Set the jars to the side to cool.
  • Next, toast the top of your marshmallows by placing them on tin foil and sweeping your kitchen torch across the tops. Please follow all safety precautions that are listed on the product label of the torch. If you don't have a torch you can toast your marshmallows by placing them in your oven on broil for 1 minute or less. Set your toasted marshmallows to the side.

ASSEMBLING THE CAKE JARS

  • Take your cupcake out of the wrapper and break it into large pieces. Put half of the pieces in the jar.
  • Next, put 1 or 2 scoops of marshmallow fluff on top of the cake, depending on how gooey you like your s’mores.
  • Crush 6 small rectangles of graham crackers and sprinkle it over the marshmallow fluff.
  • Put the remaining cake on top of the graham crackers. If you like, you can add more graham cracker sprinkles to the jar for more crunch.
  • Place 3 of the toasted marshmallows at the top of the jar. They may be sticky because they are warm, but since they are toasted, they will add that delicious smores campfire flavor.
  • Lastly, place the Reindeer decorated graham crackers in between the toasted marshmallows.
  • Optional: Wrap a festive ribbon/string/twine around the top and tie it in a bow.

Notes

-If you’re reindeer start to fall, warm some chocolate, dip the cracker in it and then place it back in the jar. Once the chocolate hardens the reindeer will stay in place.
-Not all smores are the same... feel free to add your own layers to make this holiday treat extra special!
-If you want to refrigerate the contents of the jar, remove the chocolate from around the rim before sealing it with a lid.
-Once refrigerated, the marshmallows will not be as soft, so if you want that ooey gooey texture back, pop the jar in the microwave for 10-15 seconds before serving.
