Letter of the Week A-Z Series: A is for Art & 11+ Amazing Art Ideas to Try This Fall (Love to Learn Linky #7)

Hi Friends,

Today we are continuing our “A” themed week of our Perfect Tot School & Preschool A-Z series and it’s time to party for another Love to Learn Linky. This post is full of ideas! Let’s check out some different types of art then pick a craft from the list and get creating. I am so glad you are here to join us. Let’s get started!

Find all our Letter of the Week A-Z Series here
A is for Art
Explore different types of art, then make your own masterpiece. Ms. Tiger chose to make a sculpture, but you could make anything your kid felt like or what your art supplies where ready for.
Our homemade clay is fun to squish, squeeze, and create with. All the ingredients came from the kitchen so it is taste safe.

Objectives: Sensory play, creativity, introduction to art

Age Group: Preschool/Tot School

Directions for Activity:
1.  Observe different types of art. It would be fun to go to an art exhibit. I googled painting, sculptures, and photography and we briefly looked at them and discussed our observations.  I suggest finding pictures before the activity because some art isn’t G rated. Some searches I had success with where “Landscape photography” “Family photography” “Disney sand sculptures” “Abstract sculptures” “Easy paintings for kids” “landscape paintings”

2.  Create art. See below for more amazing art activities shared at the Love to Learn Linky.

Directions to make clay:
Ingredients:
1 C. cornstarch
2 C. baking soda
1 1/2 C. cold water
Food coloring (optional)
Paint (optional)

1.  Mix the ingredients together over medium heat. Stir continually, it will get really thick and hard to stir. Once it reaches desired consistency, remove from pan and let cool before playing with it. Store in an air tight container. I put ours in the fridge and it has lasted weeks.

I really love this homemade clay recipe because it’s so pretty and white, easy to make, and air dries instead of needing to be baked.

We made Animal Art sculptures to go along with our A theme of the week.

  • When this sunset Tissue Paper Craft is hung in a window it magically seems to glow resembling the beauty of a real sunset on the horizon. No glue or scissor skills are required, so this craft is easy to clean up and perfect for kids of all ages!
  • One of the most beloved children’s authors has to be Dr. Seuss who happens to have a birthday coming up on March 2nd. Did you know he wasn’t technically a doctor?– but that’s okay we still love him anyways! To start celebrating my kids picked out Horton Hears a Who!
  • The set comes in a print-in-color or a color-me (coloring book) version. You can print the set out and assemble it, or extend this activity further by letting your students color their own spinner increasing their recognition of each picture.
  • Learn about frogs and their life cycle with this activity pack that includes interactive lapbook pages, a frog craft, science experiment, and more. This pack has perfect ideas for you to incorporate into your lesson about frogs.
  • This butterfly themed activity pack is full of butterfly facts, learning pages, and includes a craft and hands on science ideas. The activities in the pack can be selected to focus on the topics you want your child or students to learn. Some activities can be done individually and some are created specifically to enhance the information included in the Butterfly Notebook that can be assembled from the printable pages.
  • Just like the spring flowers that are appearing this time of year, your kid’s brains will be growing during this fun ABC letter matching flower activity. We practiced uppercase and lowercase letters but you could always adapt this activity to suit your needs (numbers, spelling, and more). The activity requires very little prep work and when you are done you can reuse the supplies for a different activity of craft.

The clay looks like a lot of fun. We always make playdough so would be great to change it up a bit. Thanks for featuring our foil painting as well 🙂
