I hope you have a Fabulous Friday, thanks for stopping by to see the final water play activity of the week. It involves water, but doesn’t have to be a wet activity. We made our very own water fountain to explore color mixing in a fun new way! The fountain was really simple to make and kept my kiddos entertained while experimenting and learning.

Supplies:
Clear cups-We used recycled fruit cups, but small drinking cups should work fine
2 Straws
Plexiglass (approximately 2 ft. x 6 in)
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Water
Food coloring
Eye droppers
Scissors
Pen
Cotton balls (optional)

Directions:

1.  Cut cups in half and then cut a small triangle at the bottom for your straw to fit in later. Don’t make the hole too large, because it will need to be sealed for the activity to work.

2.  Insert one straw inside the other. You may need to fold one just a bit so it fits inside. Then hot glue the straws together. Make sure your hot glue gun is not too hot that the plastic melts.

   3.  Glue the cups on the plexiglass. Make sure they are in a straight line. You want your straw to be able to run down the middle inside the triangle cut outs from step

4.  Stick your straw inside the cups. Use a pen to mark the straw where to make a tiny cut so the water can enter the straw on the top 2 levels of the fountain. Then remove your straw and make a tiny cut where you placed your mark. Place the straw back inside the cups and glue in place making sure to seal the triangle opening. Once the glue cools you are ready to explore!
I gave my kiddos primary colored water and our favorite eye droppers and let them squeeze, squirt, and mix colors as the water travels down the fountain and gathers at the bottom. Make sure to empty the bottom cup, because it will overfill and if your kids are like my kids they will not notice when its about to spill.
I let my kiddos squirt the water in, but they couldn’t squirt and see the inside of the cups. You may want to try squirting the water for them.

We used a cotton ball to dip in the bottom cup. This helped us see what colors the kids created. It was fun naming our colors. Ms. Tiger is currently holding up Orange Flower.
Since you are learning about colors, why not make a beautiful Rainbow Craft to continue the lesson!

Have fun exploring colors! See you again next week for some sensory play activities. Don’t forget we will be starting homeschool preschool in September, so follow along now so you don’t miss out!  Have a great weekend 🙂
