Put together Heart Sensory Bags to Explore Color this Valentine’s. As children mix ‘n squish the hearts, fascinating colors will appear.

Color mixing seems like such a simple idea, primary colors make secondary colors, red and yellow make orange (and so forth), but the question is how do I get my kids to remember this kinda stuff to enhance their creativity as little artists? Well, I’m pretty sure you can say the word “squish” to any child and they are instantly interested. So with a few supplies I found a way for the kids to mix paint without a mess while exploring color.

Pin me please! 🙂

Supplies:
Craft paint (red, yellow, blue)
3 Plastic zip-lock bags
Black permanent pen
Duck tape (optional– but recommended)

Directions:
1.  Draw hearts on the plastic bags.

2.  Squeeze paint inside the bag on each side of the heart (red and blue, red and yellow, yellow and blue).

3.  Squeeze the air out of the bags, seal them, and duck tape the top to keep it shut. We didn’t add tape and some paint ended up coming out. So either squish carefully or take a second to add some tape :).

4.  Let kids squish the paint around and watch the colors mix together. The paint feels really cool to squish around and watching the colors change is like magic.
