Today we are continuing our “A” themed week of our Perfect Tot School & Preschool A-Z series and it’s time to party for another Love to Learn Linky. This post is full of ideas! Let’s check out some different types of art then pick a craft from the list and get creating. I am so glad you are here to join us. Let’s get started!

Our homemade clay is fun to squish, squeeze, and create with. All the ingredients came from the kitchen so it is taste safe.

Objectives: Sensory play, creativity, introduction to art

Age Group: Preschool/Tot School

Directions for Activity:
1.  Observe different types of art. It would be fun to go to an art exhibit. I googled painting, sculptures, and photography and we briefly looked at them and discussed our observations.  I suggest finding pictures before the activity because some art isn’t G rated. Some searches I had success with where “Landscape photography” “Family photography” “Disney sand sculptures” “Abstract sculptures” “Easy paintings for kids” “landscape paintings”

Directions to make clay:
Ingredients:
1 C. cornstarch
2 C. baking soda
1 1/2 C. cold water
Food coloring (optional)
Paint (optional)

1.  Mix the ingredients together over medium heat. Stir continually, it will get really thick and hard to stir. Once it reaches desired consistency, remove from pan and let cool before playing with it. Store in an air tight container. I put ours in the fridge and it has lasted weeks.

I really love this homemade clay recipe because it’s so pretty and white, easy to make, and air dries instead of needing to be baked.

We made Animal Art sculptures to go along with our A theme of the week.
