One of the cutest parts of spring is all the baby animals that start appearing like cute little fluffy chicks–so adorable! So we decided to make egg shaped chicks that are perfect for spring, Easter, or while enjoying farm themed activities.

Handprint and footprint crafts can be a little intimidating if you don’t prepare because I am sure you can just imagine paint ending up everywhere. I suggest laying a plastic tablecloth or trash bag down on the floor and setting a pack of  Huggies® Wipes on the craft table. While crafting I toss our Huggies® Clutch ‘N’ Clean Pack onto the craft table. The kids love being able to clean up all by themselves (life skills) and we manage to control the mess even when we ditch the paintbrushes and paint with hands and feet to make a cute little chick like the one below.Handprint Chick: Easy Spring and Easter Craft for Kids-perfect to make for spring, Easter, or while enjoying farm themed activities.

Directions:

Coat child’s hands with a layer of yellow paint and make a handprint of each hand on white paper. I coated both hands at once but made the handprints one at a time so I could make sure to hold their fingers still. To avoid any messes I promptly handed my kids wipes before they were able to touch anything! They always think it’s funny to try and attack me with their painted little hands. (Hehehe—not this time kiddos, I got the strongest wipes in town on my side!) After their hands were clean I looked over and the kids who were rubbing the wipes on their faces because they said they were so soft like a blanket (thanks to the triple layers). Since Huggies® Wipes are safe on faces unlike some other types of cleaning wipes I didn’t freak out.

Next coat child’s feet with a layer of orange paint and make a footprint of each foot on white paper. Again we did one foot at a time and the kids quickly wiped the paint off with their wipes. The nice things is the wipes are already moist so they didn’t have to walk to the kitchen sink (which is always tricky when their feet are covered in paint). Set the handprints and footprints aside to dry. I used a wipe to clean up the craft table because the next part of the craft I didn’t want paint to get on it.

Cut a large oval out of the yellow paper for the chick’s body. You can draw a line and have the child cut it out or you can cut it out for them.

Cut two smaller ovals for the eyes and draw circles on them with the pen.

Cut a triangle for the beak and a wavy shape for the top of the chicks head.

Assemble the chick by gluing the eyes, beak, and top to the chick.

Cut around the handprints and footprints. Because my children’s feet are bigger I cut off the bottom part of their footprint to be better proportioned to the chick. You can use the whole footprint or size it down, it’s up to you or your child. Glue the handprints to the side of the chick for the wings and glue the footprints to the bottom of the chick for its feet. Once the glue is dry your chick can be hung up to enjoy and don’t forget to post your messy kid photo with the hashtag #HugTheMessSweepstakes on Twitter or Instagram for your chance to win $2,500. We would love to see your little chicks!

While you are here check out how we used Huggies® Wipes to dye Easter eggs without a cup of dye so any aged child (including toddlers) can enjoy making Easter eggs and you don’t have to worry about a big Easter mess! They turn out beautiful and are so easy to make!
